Mr. Burgin

Oldham County Martial Arts Academy is owned and operated by Aaron J. Burgin.  Mr. Burgin began Shaolin Kempo training at age 12; he excelled in the art so much that he was asked to teach at six different Martial Arts Schools since age 15.  Mr. Burgin has been published in both the Leo magazine and Velocity magazine for his martial arts skills and has earned about 45 trophies at tournaments over the years.  He is married to Rachel Burgin, a Library Media Specialist, at Henry County High School, and both share a passion for teaching, inspiring, and serving others.  Mr. Burgin chose a Bonsai as his logo, not only because he has loved and cared for one since he was 14, but also because, to him, it represents life, development, and art.

Ron Ignacio

Born in the Philippines, Guro/Sifu Ron Ignacio immigrated to the US with his parents. He was only 8 months old at the time. Periodically Ron’s parents sent him to his homeland and there he began to learn fighting and defensive arts from his family. Along with his martial arts knowledge, Guro Ron is fluent in the Philippine language of Tagalog and actively shares history and culture of his native land through community events and in his classes.

In his early years, while living in California, Ron was introduced to a small gym down the road from his house. Ron spent years training in the gym known today as the IMB Academy. the IMB Academy was owned and operated by original Bruce Lee students Richard Bustillo and Dan Inosanto. There he practiced the fighting style of Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do/Jun Fan Gung Fu. Through IMB Ron was able to become versed in multiple martial arts such as Western Boxing, Wrestling, Judo and many others. He also studied the Villabrille-Lacoste, Doce Pares, Inosanto Blend and various systems of Kali/Arnis/Eskrima or FMA (Filipino Martial Arts).

In conjunction with his formal academy training, Ron’s grandfather Marcelino De Guzman was able to come to the US to stay and train Ron in Philippine fighting. Lolo (Grandfather) Marcelino, having fought in World War II in the Philippines, went on to teach Ron bladed weapons and other survival tactics used in Philippine Martial Arts. Guro/Sifu Ron has incorporated all of the various Philippine Martial Arts to develop his unique Ignacio Blend of FMA.

Guro/Sifu Ron has since accomplished extensive training in Muay Thai, Silat, Wing Chun as well as other fighting arts. Sifu Ron also holds a Black Belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate. He teaches and trains in all levels of armed and empty hand fighting skills. With over 30 years of martial arts experience with numerous famous and non-famous instructors, Ron still continues to learn and develop. Ron enjoys teaching and believes that often his best teacher is his own students.
